Overview
The complex journey of ad delivery is sadly not without problems, and errors are crucial part to understanding and resolving these issues. The media player can give feedback to the ad server if the ad request does not result in an ad. The VAST Error codes have been defined by the IAB and are split into fatal and non-fatal errors, the fatal errors mean an ad has not been delivered. The more detailed information that is provided in the error codes helps to diagnose the cause of the error and solve the issue.
Why? In order to improve key performance metrics such as fill rate and rendered ad slots, it is important to understand where in the workflow did things break down. If the error data is pulled through the Watching That platform it gives you the power to dig through to root cause and then make plans to resolve those issues hopefully netting out to positive impact on your fill rate and overall ad delivery performance!
How? Watching That collects proprietary errors from the players and ad servers as well as the VAST errors, to give you a complete full view of any issues.
Error data is available from almost every data source, however some are not included by default and therefore require you to contact your data source vendor to enable them. If this is not possible, but the endpoint does have error beacons, Watching That’s API collector can receive the error beacons to provide error data.
What? Your data source provider should have a complete list of the errors that they collect and pass through the log files, however we have a growing list of errors code with possible causes and recommended resolutions too.
What do they not do? Errors explored or uncovered within the Watching That platform do not immediately lead to actionable tasks to fix or resolve the issue. That's where you and your team come in! Watching That exposes the clues to get you on the right path but the action must taken by you.
